Art Nouveau style glass pavilion in Tbilisi.
I’ve always been a great admirer of Art Nouveau design and I’ve lately become rather obsessed with finding and photographing all the fine examples that Tbilisi has to offer before they are over-restored or torn down. In my search I came across this glass pavilion with its extravagant ironwork, sitting next to the Marjanishvili Theatre and which houses a café. It, however, appears to not have been built in the Art Nouveau era, but rather recently. How recent, I don’t know but it does remind me of some of the finest Art Nouveau métro entrances in Paris.
I’ve seen so many stunning old iron balconies in Tbilisi, making it very difficult to pick a favourite, but this one has to be in my top 10.

Taking a closer look at the magnificent details of a restored old building on Davit Agmashenebeli Avenue, Tbilisi.
This was another one of those stop-and-stare-on-a-busy-sidewalk moments. I find myself intrigued and captivated by the beautiful design and patina of this old Art Nouveau gate while passersby are intrigued by a crazy woman just staring at a gate.

I simply adore these details of an Art Nouveau door I came across in Jansughi Kakhidze Street, Tbilisi.
The crusty old weathered paint of this gate caught my eye in Chugureti, Tbilisi. Nature has created a most beautiful patina and so can you with FARRAGOZ recipes and step-by-step instructions.

There are a great many beautiful old gates like this in the historic parts of Tbilisi where they sit in the entrances to the courtyards (locally known as ezoebi / ეზოები) of the old residential buildings.
